The residents of Building-4 (the last residential building within a 200 square mile radius, bearing an address that is simply just the number 4) are really dug in and don’t plan on leaving any time soon.

They’re technically squatting, but if you say that to their face you probably won't have a face of your own very much longer: since Building-4 was foreclosed, the government has sent dozens of increasingly elite and lethal mercenaries to the premises, each of whom returned missing one or more of their major facial features (i.e. eyes, mouth, nose, tongue, ears) and in a state of total psychic disrepair. This is to say, the squatters/“permanent residents” of Building no.4 absolutely do not fuck around when it comes to being evicted. One of the mercenaries, for instance, left with a cardboard plaque around his neck that read (in handwriting so sloppy and crude that it seemed almost fingerpainted) “I would weep if I still had eyes,” except the mercenary was in fact weeping and hadn’t actually lost his eyes. Disturbingly, however, the poor guy had been totally convinced that his eyes were missing, and spent weeks in a state of glazed blind hypnosis where he refused to acknowledge his still functioning eyesight or engage in any activities that might require functioning eyesight (driving, reading, shooting, etc.).

Despite the suspected moral degeneracy of everyone inside, the government can’t tear down Building-4 unless it’s confirmed to be vacant. Of the twelve suspected residents, only three are known: former real estate mogul Sean Krilby, former streamer/YouTube personality Chuck Preedie, and the jobless but conspicuously wealthy Roy Meed (he makes his money selling homemade methedrine and aftermarket weapon parts to his housemates). There’s no known correlation between the housemates other than their shared place of residency, but specialists suspect that they would be very dangerous if they decided to band together and commit some sort of crime. Thus, the government's interest in foreclosing Building-4 is now tied with their manhunt for the people inside, neither of which operations are going very smoothly at all, if you couldn’t already tell.
